On the momentous occasion of the 150th anniversary of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC), the stage came alive with the mesmerizing art form of human shadow theatre. Shadow Theatre Verba crafted a captivating performance that took the audience on a historical journey through the remarkable evolution of AUBMC. With a seamless blend of shadow play, animation, and sound, we beautifully depicted the key milestones that have shaped the institution since its inception in 1866.
As the beginning of the performance, the audience was transported back in time to witness the founding of the AUB. Silhouettes gracefully depicted the Syrian Protestant School, which laid the foundation for this esteemed institution. A powerful moment ensued as the animation showcased the date “December 1, 1867,” representing the establishment of the medical school.
The Journey Begins
The scene transitioned, and the audience witnessed a mesmerizing transformation. An image of the first graduating class appeared, and as more students joined, their joyous celebration was depicted as they threw their hats into the air. This enchanting sight marked the year 1871, when the AUBMC proudly produced its first batch of graduates.
